  • 500 g - rice flour
  • 1 - finely grated coconut
  • 250 g - finely grated jaggery
  • 7 - peeled cardamoms
  • 1 tbsp - oil

How to Make Modak

  • Heat coconut, jaggery and cardamoms over a low fire and cook till thick.
  • Meanwhile, boil 1/2 litre of water and add the flour gradually, stirring all the time.
  • Cook on low heat till the flour turns thick like dough.
  • Remove from fire, rub a tbsp. of oil on it and knead to a very smooth dough.
  • Divide the dough and the coconut mixture into equal number of portions.
  • Form each portion of dough into a cup, stuff with coconut mixture and form the cup in the shape of a pyramid.
  • Steam for half an hour and serve hot or cold.
