Ingredients

  • Tamarind - Lemon size
  • Salt - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
  • Oil
  • To Roast:
  • Black pepper - 1 tbsp
  • Dry Red chillies - 4
  • Urad dal - 1 tsp
  • Tur dal - 1 tsp
  • Channa dal - 1 tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Asafoetida - 1 pinch
  • To season:
  • Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Urad dal - 1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves

How to Make Molagu-Puli Kuzhambu

  • In a little oil, fry all the roasting ingredients.
  • Let them cool, then grind to a powder or paste with water.
  • Boil the tamarind and extract all the juice.
  • Splutter mustard and urad dal and curry leaves in a little oil.
  • Add the tamarind juice, turmeric powder and salt and bring it to a boil.
  • Add the roasted mixture and reduce the flame to low.
  • Bring it to a boil, adding some water, if required and stirring in between.
  • Continue till it becomes a thick paste.
  • This can be served with rice and ghee/oil, along with papads or chips or raitha or any vegetable.
