  • 1 cup moong dal without skins
  • 3 green chillies
  • 1/2 cup coriander leaves
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 large tomato
  • 12 cloves of garlic
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds

How to Make Moong dal saar

  • Soak and boil dal in water till soft.
  • Mash and add water so that water is half an inch over the dal when settled.
  • Add turmeric, chopped green chillies, tomato and coriander leaves and salt to taste.
  • Heat oil, add cumin seeds and mustard seeds and crushed garlic.
  • When garlic is light brown, pour over dal and boil thoroughly till chillies and tomatoes are cooked.
  • Serve as an appetizer soup or with hot rice.
