  • A large head of fish (Katla)- 200 g
  • 1 cup - rice
  • Onion paste - 1/4 cup
  • Garlic paste - 1/4 cup
  • Ginger paste - 1/4 cup
  • Tomato puree - 1/2 cup
  • Red chilli powder- 2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 2 tsp
  • Garam masala powder - 2 tsp
  • Dhania-Jeera powder - 2 tsp
  • Lemon juice - 2 tsp
  • Bay leaf - 2
  • Whole garam masala
  • Jeera - 2 tsp
  • Salt and Oil - As per requirement
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing

How to Make Moorighanta (Bengali Dish)

  • Clean the head and marinate it with salt and turmeric powder.
  • Fry it till golden brown.
  • Soak the rice for 30 minutes.
  • Put oil in a pan. Add some jeera. When it turns brown, add bay leaves and garam masala.
  • Then add onion paste, garlic paste, ginger paste and fry it.
  • Add tomato puree, red chilli powder, garam masala powder, dhania-jeera powder, salt turmeric powder, lemon juice and fry it until the oil is removed.
  • Then add the head and break it in the pan and mix all together.
  • Now add the soaked rice and mix it properly. Cover it for 25 minutes on a slow flame.
  • Garnish it with fresh coriander leaves.
