Ingredients

  • 1 cup - Red rice flakes/ Sivappu aval
  • 1/4 cup - Button mushrooms (chopped)
  • 1 - Onion (big and chopped)
  • 1/2 tsp - Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - Urad dal
  • 1 tsp - Channa dal
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 2 - Dry red chillies
  • 2 - Green chillies (chopped)
  • A few - curry leaves
  • Salt
  • Oil

How to Make Mushroom and Red Rice Flakes Upma

  • Soak the red rice flakes in water for a few seconds and drain the water completely. Keep aside.
  • Heat enough oil. Splutter mustard seeds, urad dal, channa dal, dry red chillies and curry leaves.
  • Immediately add the chopped onions, chopped green chilies and cook until the onions turns translucent.
  • Now, add the chopped mushroom.
  • Saute them for a few seconds.
  • Finally, add the turmeric powder and salt.
  • Add the already washed red rice flakes.
  • Cook everything on a medium flame for a few minutes and turn off the stove.
  • Serve warm with some spicy coconut chutney.
