Ingredients

  • 1 pound - Okra, cut into thin pieces, breadth wise.
  • 1 large Onion - cut into thin strips
  • 2-3 - Chillies, cut into small pieces
  • Seasoning: Half a tsp each of mustard seeds, urad dal and channa dal.
  • 1/4 tsp - Garam Masala
  • 4 tbsp - Oil for frying
  • Salt and Turmeric - as per taste

How to Make Okra - Dry Sabji

  • Heat some oil in a skillet, and when it is hot, add the mustard seeds.
  • When they splutter, add the channa dal and urad dal.
  • Fry till they are golden brown.
  • Lower the heat or the seasoning will burn.
  • Add the onions and saute till they are translucent.
  • Add the okra, chillies, some salt and turmeric powder. Saute on low heat.
  • Continue frying till the okra is well fried and is no longer sticky.
  • At this point, the masala should look red.
  • Turn off the heat and sprinkle some garam masala on the sabzi. Cover.
  • Serve hot with rice or chapattis.
