Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup - moong dal
  • 3 - onion
  • Turmeric - a pinch
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp - pepper
  • 1 tsp - cumin seeds
  • Ingredients For Seasoning:
  • 1 tsp - mustard seeds
  • 2 tsp oil

How to Make Onion Dal Stew

  • Wash and pressure cook the dal for 2 whistles or till very soft.
  • Grind the pepper and cumin to a coarse powder.
  • Finely chop the onions and keep it aside
  • Heat oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds.
  • Add chopped onions and saute well in a medium flame for about 10 mins.
  • Add a pinch of salt, add pepper-cumin coarse powder and mix well
  • After the onions are sauteed nicely, add cooked dal and mix well along with salt
  • Add 1/2 cup of water and boil for another 5 mins
  • Serve hot.
