Ingredients

  • potato - 1 cup, peeled and chopped
  • palak (spinach) - 1 cup, chopped
  • onion - 1/2 cup, chopped
  • green chilli 1 (discard seed)
  • cumin powder - 1 tsp
  • coriander powder - 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder - 1/2 tsp
  • ginger - 3 cm piece (do not chop)
  • water or stock 1.5 litre
  • coriander leaves - 2 tbsp
  • mint leaves - 1 tbsp
  • butter - 2 tbsp
  • shah jeera - 1 tsp
  • lime slices to garnish
  • pepper to taste
  • salt to taste

How to Make Palak and Potato Shorba

  • Combine potato, onion, green chili and all the powders and ginger.
  • Add stock and simmer till potato is well cooked.
  • Add spinach, coriander and mint leaves.
  • Simmer for 10 more minutes.
  • Cool the mixture.
  • Discard ginger and blend in a mixer.
  • Add salt and pepper to taste.
  • Just before serving, melt the butter and fry shahjeera for few seconds and add to shorba.
  • Heat thoroughly and serve garnished with lime slices.
