The vegetable boiled and cooked curry recipe of Palak Sambar is not just extremely tasty, but is also rich in iron and proteins, and makes for a filling meal with rice or rotis.

Firstly, put some turmeric powder in the dal with water and cook it in the pressure cooker. Next, soak in warm water the tamarind for about 10-15 minutes and extract the water for using it. Next, boil the tamarind water with sambar powder, salt, asafoetida, green chilli and chopped tomato for about 15-20 minutes on medium heat, before adding chopped spinach to the boiled tamarind mixture.

Allow this mixture to boil for another 10 minutes at least before adding the cooked dal and allowing that to simmer for at least 5-10 minutes. Temper the dal with jeera and mustard seeds and enjoy! Temper with mustard seeds and jeera.

  • 1 bunch - spinach
  • 1 - tomato
  • 1 - green chilli
  • tamarind, lime size
  • 1 to 1.5 tbsp - sambar powder
  • Salt
  • Asafoetida, a pinch
  • 1/2 cup - tur dal
  • Turmeric, a pinch
  • To temper: mustard seeds and jeera

How to Make Palak Sambar

  • Cook dal with turmeric in a pressure cooker.
  • Soak tamarind in warm water for 10 minutes and extract the water.
  • Boil the tamarind water with chopped tomato, green chilli, asafoetida, salt and sambar powder for 15 minutes on medium heat.
  • Chop spinach and add it to the Boiled tamarind water mixture.
  • Let it boil for another 10 minutes.
  • Add cooked dal and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Temper with mustard seeds and jeera.
