Ingredients

  • 1 cup (200 g) - broken rice (rice rava)
  • 1 cup (200 ml) - water
  • 3/4 cup - boiled milk
  • 1/2 tsp - salt
  • 1 tsp - sugar
  • 1/2 tsp - cardamom powder
  • 30 g (2 tbsp) - grated coconut
  • 1 tsp - butter, melted

How to Make Papputu

  • Grease a steel plate with the butter and keep aside.
  • In a bowl, mix the rice rava with water, milk, salt, sugar, cardamom powder and half of the grated coconut (the mixture should be thinner than dosa batter).
  • Pour the mixture into the steel plate and sprinkle the remaining grated coconut on top.
  • Steam it in a steamer/dhokla steamer or pressure cooker (without weight) for 25 minutes (reduce the steam to medium after the first 5 minutes).
  • Switch off the heat and allow to cool for half an hour.
  • Cut into desired shape and size. Serve with any spicy curry.
