  • 1 cup - cooked rice
  • 2 tbsp - oil/ghee
  • 2 tbsp - coarsely crushed black pepper
  • 2 tsp - black gram dal and channa dal
  • 1 tsp - mustard seeds
  • 8-10 - curry leaves
  • 8-10 - cashew nuts
  • 1/2 tsp - hing powder
  • 1 tbsp - fresh coconut
  • 1tbsp - fresh coriander
  • salt

How to Make Pepper rice

  • In a heavy bottomed wok/ kadai/pan, heat the oil.
  • When the oil is hot, add hing, mustard, urad dal, channa dal, curry leaves and cashew nuts. Fry for a minute or so.
  • Keep 1/4 tsp for garnishing and add the rest of the crushed black pepper and fry it for just a few seconds.
  • Add the cooked rice and mix it thoroughly, without crushing the rice. Add salt and mix.
  • Decorate with fresh coconut and coriander and serve with pappads or raita.
