Ingredients

  • Green tomatoes - 300 g (cut into pieces)
  • Green chillies -5 (each, cut into 2)
  • Urad dal - 1 tsp
  • Channa dal - 2 tsp
  • Til - 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds -1/2 tsp
  • Curry patta leaves - 6
  • Tamarind paste - 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilli -1, broken into pieces
  • Peeled garlic - 5
  • Onion - 1, small (chopped fine)
  • Hing - a pinch
  • Salt - to taste
  • Chopped coriander leaves - 1 tsp

How to Make Plain Green Tomato Chutney

  • Dry fry dals and til untill light brown, powder, keep it aside.
  • Heat 1 tsp oil, add green chilli, tomato, peeled garlic, fry for 2 mins, put it in a mixie, run it for few secs, add tamarind, masala powder and salt, run it for a sec, remove into a bowl.
  • Heat remaining oil, add mustard seeds, hing, curry leaves, red chilli, lastly onion pieces, remove from fire when mustard crackles and onion becomes soft.
  • Pour this over prepared chutney, mix well, sprinkle chopped coriander and mix.
  • Serve with dosa/ idli.
