Ingredients

  • 1/2 kg mackerel
  • 1 cup coconut grated
  • A small piece of ginger sliced thinly
  • 4 flakes of garlic sliced thinly
  • 2 green chillies
  • A lot of curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tbsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tbsp cumin powder
  • Juice of tamarind - Lemon-sized
  • For grinding:
  • Grind the above 1 cup of coconut grated with 1/2 tbsp of turmeric nicely and fine.
  • Seasoning:
  • Cut onions into small, mustard. and oil.

How to Make Plain Mackerel in Coconut Gravy

  • Clean the fish and cut each fish to two pieces.
  • Now add 3 cups of water to the ground coconut and add the ginger, garlic, green chillies, red chilli powder, cumin powder and tamarind juice to it and finally the curry leaves.
  • Let this mixture boil nicely.
  • Once boiled, add the fish pieces and cover till the fish is done.
  • When the fish is done, it is the turn of the seasoning.
  • Heat oil and add mustard seeds.
  • When it splutters, add onions and brown it and add this mixture over the fish.
  • Tastes excellent with hot basmati rice.
