Ingredients

  • 1 kg - pomfrets, cut into thick slices.
  • 3 big - onions, sliced finely.
  • 2 - green chillies, sliced lengthwise.
  • 1 tbsp - ginger garlic paste.
  • 3 tbsp - grounded coconut paste or coconut milk.
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder.
  • 3 tbsp - oil.
  • salt.
  • 1 cup - thick tamarind juice or 1/2 cup - lime juice.
  • 3 tsp - chilli powder.
  • 1 tsp - cumin powder.
  • 1 tsp - coriander powder.
  • 2 sprigs - curry leaves.

How to Make Plain Pomfret curry

  • Heat oil in a pan and add the curry leaves and onions and saute for a few minutes.
  • Add the ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, chilli powder, cumin powder, coriander powder and coconut and fry for 2-3 mins.
  • Add the tamarind juice, salt, slit green chillies and bring it to a boil.
  • Add the fish and a little more water if more gravy is required.
  • Cook on low heat for about 5 mins till the fish is cooked.
  • Pour a tbsp of oil on top of it and then remove it from heat.
  • Serve it with rice or bread.
