  • 1 cup - dried rajma (washed and soaked overnight)
  • 4 - medium sized onions (chopped)
  • 3 - medium sized tomatoes
  • 1 tsp - garam masala
  • 3-4 - green chillies sliced vertically
  • curry leaves
  • 4 tbsp - oil
  • salt

How to Make Plain Rajma Masala

  • Drain the water from the soaked rajma and boil it in the pressure cooker till it is cooked.
  • Grind the chopped onions and tomatoes separately with a little water to a fine paste.
  • Heat the oil and add curry leaves and sliced green chillies.
  • Add the onion paste and fry on medium heat till the paste turns pinkish in colour.
  • Pour the tomato paste and stir. Fry on high heat for 5 to 8 minutes, till the mixture is slightly reduced.
  • After this add the boiled rajma along with the water and salt. Cover and cook for 10 minutes on medium heat so that the masala blends well with the rajma.
  • Once done, sprinkle the garam masala and stir.
  • You can garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  • Serve the dish hot with rice or rotis.
