  • 1 bunch - Spinach.
  • 1/4 cup - green Gram Dal.
  • 2 - small red chillies.
  • 1/2 tsp - Mustard Seeds.
  • 1/2 tsp - Black Gram Dal (or) 1/2 tsp - Cumin Seeds.
  • 1 tbsp - oil.
  • A Pinch of Asafoetida (hing).
  • Salt to taste|

How to Make Plain Spinach

  • Soak green-gram dal in water for 15 minutes.
  • Wash the spinach leaves thoroughly. No need to chop the leaves.
  • Pressure cook the dal and leaves for 10-15 minutes without water.
  • Wait till the steam is released before opening the cooker.
  • Mash the cooked dal and leaves.
  • Add oil in a pan.
  • When hot, add mustard seeds. Wait till it splutters, add black gram or cumin, red chillies and asafoetida.
  • When brown, add it to the spinach.
  • Add the required salt and serve.
