  • 1/2 kg - potato
  • 2 cup - Maida
  • 1 tsp - chilli powder
  • 1 tsp - cumin seeds
  • 2 tbsp - butter
  • oil to deep fry
  • salt to taste

How to Make Potato Chakli (Murukku)

  • Boil the potatoes. Peel and mash (the mashed potato should be very smooth)
  • Tie the Maida in a thin cloth and steam for 15-20 minutes.
  • Open the bundle, and break the lump while hot with a ladle.
  • When it is slightly cooled, powder with fingers and sift.
  • Mix the sifted Maida with mashed potato.
  • Add rest of the ingredients except the oil.
  • Add enough water and make a soft but not sticky dough.
  • Place some dough in a Chakli mould and press discs of concentric circles on a sheet of plastic.
  • Fry the chaklis, few at a time in moderately hot oil till crisp.
  • Cool and store in an air tight container.
