Ingredients

  • Prawns - 1 kg
  • Coconut - 1
  • Onions - 10 large
  • Ginger - 2 "
  • Chilli powder - 5 tsps
  • Coriander powder - 12 tsps
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Green chillies- 10
  • Oil - 4 tbsp
  • Tamarind juice- 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves - 3-4 sprigs
  • Turmeric - 1 tsp
  • Salt - to taste.

How to Make Prawn Curry

  • Clean and cook the prawns in a pressure cooker with salt and turmeric.
  • Keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan and saute the finely chopped onions and ginger pieces until brown and add to the cooked prawns.
  • Grate half of the coconut and fry until deep brown and grind it into a paste.
  • Cut the remaining half of the coconut into thin pieces.
  • Add tamarind juice, chillies, coriander powder, coconut paste and coconut pieces to the cooked prawns.
  • Add water and cook on low fire till the gravy thickens.
  • Splutter mustard seeds in the remaining oil.
  • Add curry leaves and green chillies to it and add this to the curry.
  • Serve hot with rice or roti.
