  • 250 g - Raw rice
  • 50 g- Split Red Gram
  • Half a cup - Coconut
  • 2 to 3 - Green chillies
  • Half tsp -Mustard seeds
  • Half tsp -Split black gram
  • Curry leaves
  • 2 -Red chillies
  • 2 or 3 -Onions (finely chopped)
  • Coconut Oil (optional)

How to Make Rice Upma

  • Sprinkle little water on the rice and keep it aside for few minutes.
  • When it has dried, grind it in a mixer coarsely.
  • Soak split red gram in water for a few minutes and grind it with green chillies into paste.
  • Heat oil, add mustard seeds, split black gram and red chillies.
  • Add onions when it has been fried completely and water twice to the quantity of rice i.e. 1:2 ratio.
  • Add scraped coconut, ground paste, salt and curry leaves.
  • When water starts boiling add pounded rice and close the lid.
  • After five minutes open the lid and stir again.
  • After rice is cooked, add coconut oil.
