Ingredients

  • 25 - diced red chillies
  • Dried shrimp paste - 2 tbsp
  • 4 tbsp - tamarind paste
  • 1/2 cup - water
  • 1 tsp - dark soya sauce
  • 6 tbsp - brown sugar
  • 1 - cucumber
  • 2 - raw mango
  • 1/2 can - pineapple
  • 1 - star fruit (optional)
  • 1 - jackfruit (optional)
  • 200 g - turnip
  • 100 g - sweet potato
  • 2 tbsp - black shrimp paste
  • 150 g - peanut candy or roasted peanuts, ground coarsely
  • 1 tbsp - roasted sesame seeds

How to Make Rojak

  • Add the chillies, shrimp paste, soya sauce, brown sugar with the tamarind paste and water in a small saucepan.
  • Cook on low heat till the sugar dissolves and sauce thickens. Let it cool.
  • Add all the cut vegetables and fruits into the sauce, along with the black shrimp paste, and mix well. Cook till done.
  • Garnish with ground peanut candy and roasted sesame seeds, and serve immediately.
