  • toor dal - 1 cup
  • any vegetables of ur choice like drumsticks, white pumpkin,red pumpkin,potato,onion,capsicum etc. either single or in combination
  • imli or tamarind paste - 1 tsp
  • turmeric- 1 tsp
  • LG powder(hing)- a pinch
  • green chillies- 4
  • dhania -1 tbsp
  • chana dal- 1 tbsp
  • methi- 1/2 tsp
  • jeera- 1/2 tsp
  • tomato- 1
  • salt to taste
  • jaggery or sugar - 1tsp For Tadka: Oil -2 tbsp
  • mustard seeds- ?tsp
  • methi seeds-1/2 tsp
  • curry leaves- few
  • coriander leaves- for garnishing

How to Make Sambhar (Without Coconut)

  • Wash tuvar dal and soak for 1 hour after adding haldi powder and l.g powder.
  • In a kadhai, heat one tbsp oil, fry chillies, dhania, chana dal, methi and jeera seeds. Grind to a paste with tomato and water. Keep aside.
  • Heat a pressure cooker. Add a tsp oil. Give a tadka of mustard seeds, methi seeds and a few curry leaves.
  • Add vegetables and fry for 1 minute add some water and tamarind paste .
  • Add salt to taste, jaggery,and soaked dal. Now add masala paste and mix well.
  • Add sufficient water for dal to cook. Give two or three whistles as is necessary for dal to cook.
  • Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves.
