  • 1 packet - semiya or vermicelli
  • 1/2 tsp - mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp - Bengal gram dal
  • 4 - dry chillies
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • 1 tbsp - oil
  • salt to taste

How to Make Semiya Uppuma

  • Heat oil in a kadai. Add the mustard seeds and allow it to splutter.
  • Add the Bengal gram dal, dry chilli and asafoetida.
  • Now add the vermicelli and roast till it is golden brown.
  • Add 2 cups of water and add salt and cook for another 5 mins.
  • Serve hot with tomato chutney or mint chutney.
