Ingredients

  • 250 g - thin rice Sevia
  • 4 - Onions
  • 2 - Tomatoes
  • 1 - Lime
  • 10 - medium sized green chillies
  • 1/2 bunch - Coriander leaves
  • 20 - Curry leaves
  • 1 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp - Channa Dal
  • 1 tsp - urad Dal
  • A pinch - Turmeric
  • A pinch - Asafoetida
  • 2 tbsp - Oil

How to Make Shavige Uppittu

  • Break the lengthy sevia into pieces and keep it aside.
  • Cut onions, tomatoes, chillies, coriander leaves into small pieces.
  • Heat oil in a pan, sputter mustard seeds, add urad dal, channa dal, curry leaves, coriander leaves, turmeric and asafoetida.
  • Then add onions and fry them until just before reaching golden brown colour.
  • Now add tomatoes and fry them until done.
  • Add sevia pieces to this preparation, mix salt as required and add 2 cups water and close the lid and cook it under low flame for 10 mins.
  • When the sevia is tender, squeeze lime juice and serve hot.
  • This serves as light breakfast
