  • Freshwater fish - 500 g
  • Mustard seeds - 3 tbsp
  • Green chillies - 5 to 6
  • Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Few pieces of banana leaves or aluminium foil
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Shorsher Mach (Mustard Fish)

  • Wash the fish and slice it thinly.
  • Grind mustard with coconut and green chillies to make a smooth paste.
  • Mix the paste with chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt and oil.
  • Apply this paste on both sides of fish slices.
  • Wrap each slice of fish on a piece of banana leaf or foil.
  • Steam the parcels for 15-20 mins.
  • Serve hot with rice and dal.
