  • 1 cup - basmati rice
  • 1 cup - peas
  • 1 - onion
  • 2 to 3 - cloves garlic
  • 1 - bay leaf
  • 1 tsp - cumin
  • 4 to 5 - cloves
  • 1/2 tsp - whole pepper
  • Toasted cashew nuts for garnish (optional)
  • Sprigs of cilantro and mint for garnish
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Simple Peas Pulao

  • Soak the rice for 30 minutes in water.
  • Heat some butter/ghee/oil in a non-stick pan and saute chopped onions along with bay leaf, cloves, pepper, garlic and cumin.
  • Once the onions get soft, add the drained rice and saute for another 3-4 minutes till the rice becomes light pink.
  • Add 2.5 cups water and salt, mix well and then close the lid and cook for another 5-8 minutes till the rice is 80 per cent cooked.
  • Add the peas at this point and mix it gently along with the rice.
  • Cook for another 5 minutes until done.
  • Garnish with cashews, mint and cilantro.
  • Serve hot with any side dish from simple raita to rich dishes like shahi paneer.
