Ingredients

  • 1 cup - basmati rice (washed and soaked for 30 minutes)
  • 1 cup - shelled green peas (fresh or frozen)
  • ½ cup - small soya chunks
  • 2 onions (finely sliced)
  • 1 tsp - cumin seeds
  • 2 piece cinnamon
  • 2 black cardamoms (peeled)
  • 5 to 6 green cardamoms (peeled)
  • 2 tsp - red chilli powder
  • 2.5 cups water
  • 5 to 6 cloves
  • 2 bay leaves
  • salt to taste
  • 5 tbsp - oil

How to Make Soya and Green Peas rice

  • Soak the soya chunks in hot water for 20 mins.
  • Drain out the water and keep aside the chunks.
  • Heat oil in a heavy bottom vessel.
  • Add the cumin seeds, cloves, cinnamon, bay leaves and cardamoms. Saute for few seconds.
  • Add the sliced onions and fry on a medium flame till golden brown.
  • Add the soya chunks, green peas and red chilli powder.
  • Saute on a low flame for five mins.
  • Add the rice, 2.5 cups water and salt. Mix well. Simmer.
  • Cover with a lid. Gently mix at regular intervals.
  • Cook till the rice is done.
  • Serve hot with raitha or any gravy dish.
