  • 1 cup - Suji
  • 1 - Finely chopped onion
  • 1 - Finely chopped tomato
  • 1 - Finely chopped potato
  • 2 - Chopped green chillies
  • 1 to 2 tsps - Vegetable oil
  • 1 to 2 tbsps - Lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp - Red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Amchur powder
  • 8-10 - Rai (fine mustard seeds)
  • 4-5 - Chopped coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Special Upma

  • Heat a heavy pan, add sooji and roast it without ghee so that the sooji turns light brown in colour.
  • Take it out it into a separate plate.
  • Add rai seeds and chopped onions into the oil.
  • Fry onion until it becomes golden brown in colour.
  • Now add chopped potatoes, cover it and cook it on a low flame.
  • When potatoes are completely cooked, add chopped tomatoes, red chilli powder, salt and fry it.
  • Add roasted sooji in a pan and add water (nearly 2 times the quantity of sooji).
  • Mix it very well. Cover and cook it on medium flame.
  • Turn off the gas. Add 1-2 tbsps lemon juice.
  • Serve it hot with green coriander chutney.
  • Garnish it with chopped coriander leaves before serving.
