Ingredients

  • 1/8 cup - urad dal
  • 1 medium sized - tomato
  • 6-7 - shallots
  • 8-10 - green chillies
  • Fresh coriander, a generous bunch
  • 1/2 cup - shredded coconut (optional)
  • 1 tsp - mustard seeds (optional)
  • 1 tsp - salt
  • 1/2 cup - water
  • 5 tsp - oil
  • To temper:
  • 3 tsp - sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp - mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - urad dal (optional)
  • 1 sprig - curry leaves
  • 1/8 tsp - hing/Asafoetida/Perungayam

How to Make Special Urad dal Chutney

  • Saute onions, chillies, urad dal, coconut, tomatoes and coriander.
  • Grind sauted ingredients coarsely.
  • Temper the chutney with the ingredients under tempering.
  • Serve with idlis and dosas.
