  • 1 pack - frozen chopped spinach
  • 2 - green chillies
  • 1 tbsp - tamarind paste
  • 1/2 tbsp - rice flour
  • 2.5 cups - water
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
  • For seasoning:
  • 1/2 tsp -fenugreek
  • 1/2 tsp - mustard
  • 1/2 tsp - asafoetida
  • 2 - red chillies
  • 1/2 tsp - oil
  • For garnish:
  • 1 tbsp - mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tbsp - oil.

How to Make Spinach Stew

  • Cook the frozen spinach in a microwave as per directions on the pack for 4 minutes, stir it with a fork and cook for 4 more minutes.
  • Heat oil in a thick deep vessel and splutter asafoetida, fenugreek, mustard seeds, red chillies.
  • Add the sliced green chillies and let it fry for about 10 seconds. Add the cooked spinach and leave it on medium fire for a couple of minutes.
  • Pour the water into the pan and add in the tamarind paste and turmeric.
  • Add salt to taste. Let it boil for a couple of minutes.
  • Mix the rice flour in some water to get a watery consistency and add it to the stew. This helps to thicken the stew a little bit.
  • Remove from fire after a while.
