Ingredients

  • 6 to 8 slices - hilsa fish
  • 1.5 tbsps - mustard seeds
  • 2 to 3 - green chillies
  • 1/4 - grated coconut
  • pinch - turmeric
  • mustard oil for frying
  • coriander leaves for garnishing
  • salt to taste

How to Make Steamed Hilsa

  • Grind mustard seeds, green chillies, coconut and salt.
  • Mix this paste with mustard oil and turmeric.
  • Rub the paste over the fish slices.
  • Put the fish in a greased dish, cover and cook over steam (this can also be done in a pressure cooker).
  • Steam until mustard gives off a sharp aroma.
  • Remove and sprinkle with chopped coriander and serve with hot rice.
