Ingredients

  • 1 cup - channa dal
  • 1 cup - onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp - fenugreek leaves or dill leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 inch piece - cinnamon stick
  • 2 to 3 - cardamoms
  • 2 - cloves
  • 1 - bay leaf
  • 1 tsp - cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp - pepper powder
  • 1 tsp - lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp - sugar
  • 2 tbs - ghee
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Sukhi Channa Dal

  • Clean and soak dal for 15 mins.
  • Boil with turmeric powder and salt with 5 cups water till soft. Drain the water.
  • Heat ghee in a pan and roast cinnamon, cardamom, clove and cumin seeds.
  • Add onions and fry till light brown.
  • Add dal, sugar, pepper powder, lemon juice, bay leaves and fenugreek leaves. Stir gently.
  • Do not mash the dal too much.
  • Serve hot with paratha or rice.
