Ingredients

  • 1/2 kg - meat
  • 2 bunches - coriander leaves
  • 2-3 tsp - salt
  • 2-3 tsp - red chilli
  • 1/4 tsp - turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp - garam masala
  • 1.5 tbsps - ginger paste
  • 1.5 tbsps - garlic paste
  • 1 tsp - vinegar
  • 4 tsps - lime juice
  • Oil for frying

How to Make Talawa Gosht

  • Cut the meat into cubes and grind coarsely in a mixer (make sure that the cubes are not fully minced, but only torn).
  • Add ginger paste, garlic paste, salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and vinegar to the beef.
  • Mix well and keep aside for 30 minutes to an hour (refrigerate overnight for better taste).
  • Heat 4 tbsps oil in a pressure cooker and fry the beef for 3 minutes.
  • Add 2 cups of water and pressure cook over medium heat for 25 minutes.
  • Heat a non-stick cooking vessel/pan with several tbsps of oil for frying beef.
  • Add the contents of the pressure cooker to the frying pan.
  • Fry the beef for 10 minutes.
  • Add coriander leaves and fry for another 5 minutes or until the beef is blackish brown in colour.
  • Add more oil if needed.
  • Heat some coal pieces until red hot. Add some onion slices to the beef, pour some ghee into them and drop the coals in it.
  • Immediately put the lid back on the pan and let the smoke settle to give a good aroma.
  • Pour lime juice, mix well and serve hot with slices of onion and tomato.
