Mixed Dal is a simple dish prepared with a mix of pulses or lentils and savoury Indian spices. It is regarded to be a highly nutritious, wholesome side dish recipe. Usually, this familiar side dish is made with any one dal variety and is eaten along with steamed rice and any type of Indian bread. But, this specific dish uses a fine mixture of protein-rich dals like toovar dal, moong dal, and masoor dal. 

The dal varieties mixed along with healthy veggies like brinjal, tomato, potato, red pumpkin, spring onions and traditional ingredients like garlic, ginger, cinnamon, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, green and red chillies imparts a rich, flavourful taste.   • 1 cup toovar daal
  • 1 tbsp. moong daal
  • 1 tbsp. masoor daal
  • 1 potato
  • 1 small brinjal
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 3 spring onions
  • 1 slice red pumpkin
  • 6 tsp. tamarind pulp
  • 1 chopped onion
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • Grind the following:
  • 4 green chillies
  • 4 red chillies
  • 10 cloves garlic
  • 1” piece ginger
  • 1” stick cinnamon
  • 3 cloves
  • 3 peppercorns
  • 3 cardamoms
  • 4 tsp. coriander seeds
  • 2 tsp. cumin seeds
  • 4 tbsp. fresh coriander

How to Make Tasty Mixed Dal

  • Mix the daals, wash them and soak for a few hours, cut vegetables into big pieces, mix daal, vegetables and 6 cups water and cook. Liquidize.
  • If too thick, add water. Heat oil in a vessel. Add ground masala and 1 chopped onion, add daal, boil, add salt to taste.
  • Cook for a little while, add tamarind water. In the end, sprinkle garam masala and coriander leaves.
