Ingredients

  • 1 cup - rice
  • For Masala Powder:
  • 1 tsp - oil
  • 1/2 cup - white til
  • 3 to 4 - red chillies
  • 2 tsp - urad dal
  • 1 pinch - lg powder
  • salt to taste
  • a few curry leaves
  • 1 tsp - jaggery
  • 1 tsp - oil
  • For Tempering:
  • 1 tbsp - oil
  • 1 tsp - mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp - urad dal
  • 1 tsp - chana dal
  • a few groundnuts or cashews

How to Make Til Rice

  • Cook rice in 2 cups of water till it is done and grains are separate. You can add 1tsp of ghee when cooking rice to prevent them from sticking. Spread rice on a plate and allow it to cool.
  • In a pan, heat 1 tsp oil, fry urad dal, chillies, l.g.powder and til. Make powder and spread on the rice.
  • Heat 1tbsp oil and add mustard seeds, urad dal, channa dal, groundnuts or cashews, curry leaves. Fry till dals and nuts are golden brown and pour on rice mix.
  • Sprinkle salt and powdered jaggery and mix well. Serve hot with any raitha or avial.
