Ingredients

  • 3 - large ripe tomatoes
  • 4 - pearl onions
  • 3 - dried red chillies
  • 1 inch piece - ginger, skinned and chopped
  • 3 tbsp - coconut
  • A few sprigs of coriander
  • 1/2 tsp - sambar powder
  • Salt to taste
  • To temper:
  • 1/2 tsp - urad dal
  • 1/2 tsp - mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - channa dal
  • A pinch - turmeric
  • A pinch - asafoetida
  • A few sprigs - curry leaves.
  • Oil - 1 tbsp.

How to Make Tomato chutney

  • Saute the onions and ginger in a tsp of oil until soft.
  • Add the tomatoes, salt, turmeric, chillies, sambar powder and saute for 5 mins more till it becomes very soft.
  • Now saute this mixture along with coriander leaves and coconut and set aside.
  • Now temper it with mustard, channa dal, turmeric, asafoetida, a few curry leaves in oil and then pour it on the mixture. Serve warm.
