Ingredients

  • Raw Tomatoes – 10 nos (approx. 250 grams)
  • Shallots – 50 grams
  • Dessicated Coconut1 – 200 grams
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Green Chillies – 6 nos
  • Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Curry Leaves – 2 sprigs
  • Coconut2 Oil – 4 tbsp

How to Make Tomato Thoran

  • Wash the tomatoes and dry them up. Chop tomatoes finely.
  • Take a handful and squeeze it with-in your palms to drain out excess water.
  • Chop shallots and chillies finely.
  • In a heavy bottomed non-stick pan, heat oil.
  • Add mustard seeds and allow to pop.
  • Add all the remaining ingredients, cover with a lid and low flame cook for about 15 mins.
  • On removing the lid you will see tomatoes leaving a lot of water.
  • Remove the lid, mix well, spread out evenly in the pan, cook for another 20 mins still on low flame, (this process helps in drying the extra water)
  • Now your tomato thoran is ready to be served with plain rice.
