Ingredients

  • Donda Kaaya/Tondli - 1 kg
  • Onions - 4
  • Oil - 4 tbsps
  • Salt to taste
  • For seasoning:
  • Mustard - 1 tsp
  • Urad daal - 1 tsp
  • Jeera - 1 tsp
  • For masala:
  • Channa daal - 4 tbsps
  • Urad daal - 2 tbsps
  • Coriander powder - 3 tbsps
  • Jeera powder - 2 tbsps
  • Red chillies - 10
  • Hing - a pinch
  • Grated coconut - 1/4 cup
  • A small ball of tamarind |

How to Make Tondli (Donda Kaaya) Masala

  • Dry roast all the above masala ingredients.
  • Cut onions lengthwise.
  • Cut tondli into 4 pieces and apply salt.
  • Pressure cook up to 3 whistles and set aside.
  • In a kadai, heat oil and add seasoning ingredients.
  • Once mustard splutters, add onions and fry until they turn pink.
  • Add cooked tondli and fry for 5 minutes.
  • Add ground masala powder evenly over the cooked tondli and stir for a min.
  • Serve hot with rice.
