Ingredients

  • 1kg - tomato
  • 150g - green chillies
  • 500g - onions
  • 150g - ginger
  • 50g -garlic
  • 50g - urad dal
  • 24g - red chillies
  • 2 tbsp - tamarind paste
  • Salt to taste
  • 250g - oil

How to Make Traditional Tomato pickle

  • Heat 2 tbsps oil in a pan. Add urad, red chillies, ginger and garlic. Saute for a minute.
  • Add diced tomatoes, onions and green chillies. Cook till they soften to a pulp. Sprinkle water to aid in this.
  • Once it is of pulpy consistency, add tamarind paste, salt and give it a stir. Cook for a minute.
  • Take off heat. Cool and pour into jar. Add the remaining oil. Stir. Bottle.
  • Serve with rice.
