Tuna Puff is an attractive, kid-friendly snack made with a delicious filling mixture, that gives way to an everlasting taste. This recipe involves two major steps: Making the tuna mixture and frying/baking those soft puffs.  

The tuna mixture is prepared with thick cream sauce (butter, flour and milk), tuna fish, salt, onion and pepper. Make sure you are using fresh, chopped tuna fish. The batter mix involves flour, water, egg whites and salt. Make soft balls (marble-sized) with the tasty tuna mixture and roll those balls in the batter mix. 

You can either fry these savoury puffs in hot butter or make them in advance, re-heat for few minutes and serve sizzling hot.

Ingredients

  • 1 can tuna fish (drained and finely chopped)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 4 tbsp. butter
  • 3 tbsp. refined flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • ½ cup refined flour
  • ½ cup water
  • A dash of salt
  • 2 egg whites (stiffly beaten)

How to Make Tuna Puffs

  • Saute onion in a tablespoon of butter. Make a thick cream sauce with 3 tbsp. of butter, 3 tbsp. of flour and milk.
  • Add tuna fish, onion, salt and pepper. Chill for several hours. Make a batter with ½ cup flour and about ½ cup water consistency of thin pancake butter.
  • Add salt and fold in 2 beaten egg whites. Form balls about the size of large marbles out of tuna mixture and roll balls in batter. Fry for a few seconds in very hot butter. Drain.
  • If tuna puffs are not fried for too long, they can be made several hours in advance and re-heated in a 205 degrees C oven for about 10 minutes when ready to serve. They must be served hot.
