  • Toor dal - 1 cup
  • Red chillies - 2 or 3
  • Asafoetida - a pinch
  • Grated coconut - 3 tbsp
  • Tamarind - 1 lemon size
  • Coriander leaves - 1/4 bunch
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Tur Dal Paruppu Urundai Kuzhambu

  • Soak tuvar dal in water for 45 mins, grind it with chillies and asafoetida and salt into a coarse semi-solid mix.
  • Add grated coconut, chopped coriander leaves.
  • Soak tamarind in water, strain well and boil this, with salt.
  • Make small balls of the dal mix and boil in the tamarind water.
  • When the dal balls are fully cooked, they rise to the surface.
  • Serve hot.
