Ingredients

  • 10-12 - sheets of filo dough
  • 1 cup - grounded walnuts
  • 1 cup - grounded pistachios
  • 1/4 cup - melted unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup - sugar
  • For the syrup:
  • 1 cup - water
  • 1 cup - sugar
  • 1/4 cup - honey
  • 1 tbsp - lemon juice
  • 1 tsp - rose essence
  • 1/2 stick of cinnamon

How to Make Turkish Baklawa

  • Preheat the oven at 180 degree C.
  • Brush butter in a baking pan.
  • Mix grounded nuts and sugar.
  • Take 4 filo sheets, crumble them lightly with hands and place them over the greased baking pan.
  • Brush butter on top and spread another 3 sheets over the crumbled sheets applying butter between.
  • Apply butter on the top layer and evenly spread the grounded nuts and sugar mix.
  • Cut the layers carefully with a knife into squares or triangles.
  • Bake it in the preheated oven for 35-40 mins.
  • To prepare the sugar syrup:
  • Boil water and add sugar and cinnamon.
  • Simmer on medium for next 10 mins.
  • Add honey and simmer for another 5 mins.
  • Finally add lemon juice and rose essence and simmer for 1 more minute.
  • Serve Bake baklava with syrup on top.
