Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup - egg substitute
  • 3/4 cup - water
  • 1 tbsp - salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp - canola oil
  • 1 1/2 tbsp - honey
  • 1/2 cup - barley flour
  • 2 1/2 cup - bread flour
  • 1 tsp - orange peel
  • 1/2 tsp - cardamom
  • 3 tbsp - non-fat dry milk
  • 1 tsp - yeast
  • For the filling
  • 1 toasted almonds
  • 1 dried apricots; diced

How to Make Turkish style Festive Baklana

  • Place all the ingredients, except for filling, into the bread machine in the proper order for your machine.
  • Use dough cycle. As the bread kneads, adjust the liquid-flour ratio if needed.
  • At the end of the dough cycle, remove dough and place on floured board.
  • Cover, and let it rest for 20 mins.
  • Roll out into a rectangle and sprinkle almonds and apricots on top.
  • Roll up into a loaf, place in greased loaf pan, cover and let it rise for 45 mins.
  • At the end of rise time, slash down the center, brush with a little beaten egg substitute and milk.
  • Bake in a pre-heated oven at 375 degree F for 25-30 mins.
  • Remove bread from pan, place on the rack, and let it cool.
