  • For cover:
  • 2 cups - soaked ponni rice
  • Rice powder, to tighten the dough
  • Salt
  • For filling:
  • 500g - prawns
  • 3-4 - onions
  • 1 tsp each - ginger and garlic paste
  • 3 - green chillies
  • 1 - tomato
  • 1 tsp - coriander powder and red chilli powder
  • 1/2 - turmeric powder
  • Curry leaves, coriander leaves

How to Make Unda puttu

  • For cover: Grind the soaked rice, add salt and make a tight dough using rice powder.
  • For the filling:
  • Fry prawns with chilly powder, turmeric powder and salt.
  • Keep aside.
  • In a pan, heat oil add onions and saute till soft.
  • Add ginger garlic paste, green chilli and saute till the raw smells goes.
  • Add tomatoes and spice powders.
  • Mix well and add the leaves and fried prawns.
  • Allow to cool.
  • Make medium-sized balls with the dough.
  • Take each dough, flatten on your palm.
  • Add the filling and roll again into small balls.
  • Roll it in the scrapped coconut and steam till done.
