Ingredients

  • 1 cup - urad dal
  • 1/2 cup - rice
  • 1 tbsp - ghee
  • 1 cup - grated jaggery
  • 2.5 cups - water
  • 1 tbsp - sugar (optional)
  • A pinch of cardamom powder
  • 1 tbsp - grated coconut
  • Nuts - as required

How to Make Urad Dal Halwa

  • Wash the rice and dal separately and keep aside to dry. It might take the whole morning.
  • Dry roast rice and dal separately and keep aside to cool off. Grind both separately to make a coarse powder (like rava). Mix them and grind together again for a minute for better texture.
  • Boil 1 cup water in a pan and add jaggery. When the jaggery dissolves, add the ground mix along with the remaining water and stir continuously for 2-3 minutes until it's a smooth blend.
  • Add ghee and sugar and continue to stir. Cover the lid and cook on a low flame for 7-8 minutes.
  • Add cardamom and grated coconut, stir it once and turn off the flame.
  • Garnish with nuts of your choice.
