Ingredients

  • 2 cups - rice
  • 1 cup - urad dal
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Urad dal Idli

  • Wash rice 6 to 8 times.
  • Drain water and roast on a pan till the rice grains become almost dry.
  • Soak rice immediately in cold water.
  • Wash and soak urad dal separately.
  • After 4 or 5 hours, grind rice and urad dal to make a coarse batter.
  • Add salt to taste.
  • Leave aside for 8 hours or till the batter is fermented.
  • Smear idli pans with a little oil and cook idlis in pressure cooker without weight.
  • After the steaming stops, wait for 10 minutes and remove cooker from flame.
