Ingredients

  • Urad dal (split) - 1/2 cup
  • Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Wheat flour - 1.5 cups
  • Oil / ghee - 4 tsps
  • Water - 1/2 cup
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Urad Dal Ki Kachauri

  • Soak the dal in water overnight. Drain and grind into fine paste.
  • Heat half oil and fry the dal paste till dry. Then mix in cumin seeds, chilli powder and salt. Keep aside.
  • Into the flour, mix in the remaining oil, salt and water to make a dough. Knead it well and make a stiff dough.
  • Cover it with a damp cloth and keep it aside for half an hour.
  • Then make small balls and flatten them a bit with your palm.
  • Put 1 tbsp of peethi mixture in the centre of each tikki. Pinch the edges together to form a ball again. Roll out into a 2 inch chapatti.
  • Heat the oil and deep-fry these kachoris till light brown and puffed.
  • Drain them and serve hot with pickle or chutney.
