Ingredients

  • 1 cup Urad Dal (soaked in water for 1/2 hour)
  • 2-3 Green Chillies
  • 1/2 cup Rice (soaked in water for an hour)
  • 1-2 Red Chillies (whole)
  • 1/2 cup - Grated Coconut
  • 1 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • Asafoetida
  • Oil to season

How to Make Uyindu Koyakattai

  • For the stuffing:
  • Grind dal with green chillies into a coarse batter.
  • Add salt and steam for 10 mins.
  • Heat the kadai, add oil, whole red chillies, asafoetida, grated coconut and mustard seeds.
  • Allow to splutter, then add the steamed dal mixture and mix well.
  • For making the dough:
  • Grind the soaked rice to form a smooth batter.
  • Add sufficient water and cook until all the water vaporises and we get a dough which can be rolled into balls.
  • Take a medium sized lump of dough and spread it by hand into a cup shape.
  • Fill two tsps of stuffing and close it.
  • When all are stuffed, steam them for 15 mins.
