Ingredients

  • 1 - valappu (plantain inflorescence)
  • 1 cup - roasted chickpeas
  • 4-5 - green chillies
  • 3 - onions
  • 2 inches stick - cinnamon
  • 2 - cardamom
  • 6 - cloves
  • 1-1.5 tsp - fennel seeds (saunf)
  • 1/2 cup - grated coconut
  • 2 tbsp - corn flour (or) rice flour
  • refined oil for frying vadas

How to Make Valappu Vadai (Plantain Flowers Vadai)

  • First clean the florets. Banana flowers have many rows of florets within one another (remove the stamen from the florets).
  • Add one tbsp of oil to kadai and roast the florets on a low flame until they are soft.
  • After it cools for 10 mins, grind it with all the other ingredients.
  • Now add rice flour and salt. Shape into small vadas and deep fry in oil.
  • Serve hot with meals or as tiffin.
