Ingredients

  • 2 tsp - tamarind paste
  • asafoetida - a pinch
  • salt - to taste
  • curry leaves - a few
  • 1/2 tsp - mustard seeds
  • For masala:
  • 2 tsp - urad dal
  • 1/2 tsp - black pepper
  • 5 to 6 - red chillies
  • 1/2 tsp - tuvar dal
  • 2 tsp - coconut ( if needed )

How to Make Vatral Kuzhambu

  • Fry the masala ingredients and powder them.
  • Take 2 tsps of tamarind paste and mix it with 2 cups of water.
  • Heat little oil in a pan and add mustard seeds to it.
  • After it crackles, add asafoetida and tamarind water mixture.
  • Allow to boil till the raw smell goes.
  • Add salt and curry leaves and boil for 2 minutes.
  • Make a mixture of rice flour and water. Add it to the kuzhambu and keep it in the stove for a minute.
  • Serve the kuzhambu hot with rice.
