  • Tamarind (lemon sized ball)
  • 1 Green chilli
  • 1 Red chilli
  • 1 Tomato
  • 1 tsp Sambhar powder
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 3 tsp Tur Dal (cooked)
  • 1 pinch turmeric powder
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • a few coriander leaves
  • 1 pinch asafoetida
  • 1 tsp neem flowers(cleaned and dried)

How to Make Veppam Poo Rasam

  • Soak tamarind in water. In a vessel, add extracted tamarind juice.
  • Add sambhar powder, chopped tomato, asafoetida and salt. Boil for a few minutes.
  • Now add cooked tur dal. Let it boil till raw smell goes away.
  • In a small pan, add oil and mustard. Once it crackles, add curry leaves, red chilli and green chilli.
  • Pour it to the rasam.
  • In the same pan, add neem flowers and curry leaves. Pour it to the rasam.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with hot rice.
